Sending email powershell vs vbscript

We are doing some baseline testing of replacing old vbs code with powershell scripts.  But we are seeing an odd result.  When sending email via vbscript the email arrives within 2-3 seconds.  When sending to the same email address, via the same smtp server and from the same machine the emails via powershell are not receiving for over a minute.  This occurs when running from a windows 7 workstation.
