I am using XP professional sp3. My computer had a hardware failure so I am switching everything to another. The failed computer is backedup on an extrernal drive. The problem I have is recovering the Favorites and the Outlook Express files. I get an Access Denied message when I try to open the files after copying them from the backup external drive. How can one recover these?
Message folders (*.dbx files) are located in C:\Documents and settings\User{your user name or ID}\Local settings\Application data\Identies\{long hex decimal number}\Microsoft\Outlook Express folder. Address book is located in C:\Documents and settings\user {your user name or ID}\Application Data\microsoft\address book folder (*.wab file) . Make a new folders and name them. In control panel backup and restore find the files you want and restore them to the newly made folders using the restore to a different location option. Open outlook express. click on file on tool bar then on import. Article 270670 will be helpful.
